Greens pay tribute to former GPTU Chair Noel Lynch

Figures from across the UK’s Green Parties paid tribute to Noel Lynch, the former London Assembly member and Trade Union Group Chair, who passed away this morning. The Green group of London AMs has led the way, publishing a tribute online, and it is expected that his life will be celebrated when the Assembly meets for Mayor’s Questions in September.

Noel led a full and active life, much of it dedicated to the cause of Green politics.

A tireless campaigner and organiser for the Green Party in London, where he lived, Noel served as the party’s fourth member of the London Assembly from 2003 to 2004. He was the London Green Party’s co-coordinator as recently as 2014.

In addition to his work in his local and regional parties, Noel was a committed trade unionist and green socialist. He was a founding member of the Green Party Trade Union Group, serving as its Chair and in other roles; he was also a founder of the group Green Left. In 2020 he was re-elected as the Trade Union Group’s Membership Secretary, retiring from the role earlier this year due to illness.

Noel is remembered fondly by those who knew him, and his passion for social and ecological justice lives on.
