Considering standing for a committee role? That’s great news!

Different roles have different responsibilities, but ultimately every committee member will help out with different aspects of our work. So there are plenty of chances to get stuck in!

The Chair plays an overall leadership role, helping to coordinate the Group’s activity.

The Chair would expect to be:

  • Chairing meetings of the committee, and meetings of the Trade Union Group
  • Organising and leading on committee meetings and ensuring the committee functions effectively
  • Offering support to the other committee members and ensuring they feel valued and able to contribute
  • Being the primary public face and spokesperson for the Trade Union Group
  • Leading other committee members on creating and delivering a plan for the committee’s term in office
  • Pitching in to support other committee members in their areas of responsibility

SecretaryExpand

The Secretary helps to keep the Group going and makes sure everything is up to date.

The Secretary could expect to be:

  • Supporting the administration and organisation of committee meetings and ordinary meetings
  • Ensuring that the Trade Union Group’s notes, records, and public-facing website are up-to-date
  • Managing incoming requests to the website and inbox
  • Supporting other committee members when possible and appropriate

TreasurerExpand

The Treasurer is overall responsible for Group finances, as well as taking part in the committee’s other activities.

The Treasurer could expect to be:

  • Creating and maintaining the Trade Union Group’s budget
  • Monitoring the Group’s overall finances, including bank accounts and payment processors
  • Approving expenditure in line with the budget
  • Leading on fundraising efforts to increase income
  • Supporting other committee members when possible and appropriate

Membership OfficerExpand

The Membership Officer helps to make sure members can get involved in what the Group is doing.

The Membership Officer could expect to be:

  • Maintaining the Group’s membership list and processing new membership applications
  • Leading on communications with members, including using our mailing software Action Network
  • Leading on ensuring members have spaces for discussion, debate, and participation in the Group
  • Liaising with any local Green Party Trade Union Groups
  • Leading on organising the AGM and committee elections
  • Supporting other committee members when possible and appropriate

Media & Campaigns OfficerExpand

The Media & Campaigns Officer helps to make sure we’re supporting important union campaigns and communicating well.

The Media & Campaigns Officer could expect to be:

  • Leading on the Group’s external communications, including social media and press
  • Leading on ensuring the Group’s website is up to date
  • Leading on the Group’s campaigns, supported by other committee members
  • Leading on ensuring the group stays up to date with labour movement campaigns and live issues
  • Supporting other committee members when possible and appropriate

Policy & Education OfficerExpand

The Policy & Education Officer would help to make sure that the Group is up to speed on policy in the labour movement, and helping to improve Green Party policy.

The Policy & Education could expect to be:

  • Leading on the Group’s events to make sure there are informative events for members
  • Leading on delivering political education for the party’s members
  • Working to raise the profile and importance in the party of working closely with the labour movement
  • Leading on making sure the Group’s priorities are reflected in the Green Party’s policies and communications, including developing new policies
  • Staying up to date with policy developments in the labour movement
  • Working to popularise Green policies and principles in the labour movement

Equalities OfficerExpand

The Equalities Officer would work to make sure that liberation and opposition to oppression is at the centre of what the Group does.

The Equalities Officer could expect to be:

  • Working to make sure the Group is putting liberation and the empowerment of historically oppressed groups at the centre of its work
  • Monitoring the Group’s work to ensure that all groups of people are represented and listened to in its campaigns
  • Leading on ensuring the group supports liberation campaigns inside trade unions and the wider labour movement
