Green Party makes gains at local elections

The Green Party celebrated significant gains across England in local elections, as more and more voters endorsed the party’s vision.

By Monday 10th May, Greens had made net gains of 85 seats on principal authority councils. The party also gained a seat on the London Assembly, with Zack Polanski joining Sian Berry and Caroline Russell in the Green group at City Hall.

While Green wins could be seen across England, the party in Bristol made particularly outstanding progress – coming a strong second in the Mayoral contest and drawing level with Labour on 24 City Council seats.

Trade unionists and GPTU members are among the new cohort of councillors, and we would like to congratulate them on their victories and wish them every success in fighting for their communities.

The website Bright Green reported that in the midst of these historic gains over 1,000 people had joined the party since the election.
